Today, Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest and most progressive grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists the only grassroots organization fighting to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all, and energizing science to find the cures.

The promise to end breast cancer was made between two sisters Nancy Brinker and Susan G. Komen who died from breast cancer at the age of 36.

Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among women.  One in 8 women will be diagnosed in her lifetime.

182,460 women and 1,990 men in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009.

40,480 women and 450 men will die of the disease this year.
